This was originally posted on Fanfiction.net and I wanted to post it here as well.  It was my way of passing the summer by writing my take on a possible way to start Season Three.  This is written as a full "episode", complete with a twisted murder investigation and, of course, the great personal drama that we've all come to love about the show itself.

Castle and Beckett are reuinted and bond over a mysterious masacre.  They struggle to catch the killer while making amends for their mistakes in the spring and repair their wounded hearts.

It's been 89 days since he left. Can you believe it? 89 days... it feels like a million years since he was last in the precinct. It feels like he's a million miles away, even though I know he is in the Hamptons.

All I can say is, that now Castle is back. And I can't even pull myself together long enough to think about what I am going to do about it.

Somehow, he managed to restore a part of her she had thought long gone. Castle was laughing, having fun as he moved his limbs about in the snow, even as his arm was encased in a slowly unraveling bandage. And a growing part of her itched to join in.

Kate and Rick fall asleep early christmas eve, after a particularily grueling case, only to wake up with  minutes to spare before their respective holiday traditions and 2 meters of snow on the ground. What will they do now that they are trapped, alone, at the precint?

Kate Beckett is working hard while she thinks Castle is having fun at his beach house. Maybe too much work is getting to her. She just needs a little bit of sleep. She certainly doesn't have Castle Syndrome. Or does she?

"Night, guys." Beckett had said as she walked off with the mystery man in the leather jacket. One arm was wrapped around the man, the other, holding a motorcycle helmet. The scene kept replaying in Castle's mind.

After Kate decides to put her mother's case away, a package will change everything. Secrets are revealed, a relationship develops, and the gang is placed in more danger than they ever have before. This is my attempt to take Castle canon and solve the case. Enjoy!

A State of Emergency is called due to a large amount of snowfall in the New York City area. Cars are to be off the road, and people are urged to stay in their homes. Kate Beckett can't do that though as she's at Richard Castle's.
